Watchmaking
Brought to you by Jaeger-LeCoultre
There is
something decidedly awe-inspiring about a well-crafted
watch. Perhaps it is the fact that for close to 200 years,
the art of
watchmaking has remained constant and, even in the 21st
century, many of the great horologists still use the time-honoured
traditions of painstakingly precise handiwork. One such
house is Jaeger-LeCoultre.
The story of Jaeger-LeCoultre started with Antoine LeCoultre,
who founded the first workshop in Vallee de Joux,
Switzerland in 1833; ten years later he became the first man
to measure a micron. It was Antoine who set the standard for
all future watches produced by the workshop and when he
passed away, his son took over the business. In 1903
Antoine’s grandson met Edmond Jaeger, a Parisian who
challenged the workshop to produce ultra-thin calibres of
the Frenchman’s own invention.
Thus Jaeger-LeCoultre was formed, which has remained at the
forefront of precision watch-making technology. The company
strives to ensure that the process of watchmaking from start
to finish is never outside the hands of its professionals
and is one of the few
watchmakers in the world that are involved in the entire
process. |
