Drumming Up the Highlands

On 8 June 2007, the Arena of Stars at Genting - City of Entertainment was filled with the thumping, thunderous sounds of the Chinese drums as the Hands Percussion Team presented Drum Slices 2. Over 170 young drummers ranging from the ages of 7 to 20 showed off their skills and virtuosity in a power packed, heart beating performance. The troupe had won three awards at the 2006 Cameronian Arts Awards for Best Group Performance, Best Production Value and Best Original Compositions.

Although the instruments used were mostly Chinese drums, the performance featured many multi-cultural elements. These include incorporating Malay and Indian beats and rhythms into the performances.  There was also a jamming session with a violin and saxophone as well as a dance and drums performance.
