Music from the Age of Innocence

The 1960’s was the time of the British Invasion - the term given to the phenomenon of British bands crossing the Atlantic to the United States in the search of fame and fortune. Leading the pack was of course the Beatles.

There were others too such as the Rolling Stones, and the Kinks whose musical styling formed the basis of hard rock and heavy metal. And then there was Herman’s Hermits - a band unlike so many others of that time. Their fresh-faced youthfulness and innocence shone through in the lyrics like the one shown above; making them one of the most accessible bands around. The lifespan of the band was a mere seven years, but in that short time, they had 20 singles reach the Top 40 in Britain and 16 Top 20 singles in the United States, as well as a double Grammy nomination for Mrs. Brown You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter.

They carved out a niche for themselves in the demanding world of popular music, leaving behind a legacy that has lasted till today. Their music still live on - in the oldies channels on radio stations, in the CDs and LPs of fans, and in Peter Noone who performs in the band Herman’s Hermits Starring Peter Noone.
