Celebrating Around The World

All around the world, wherever there is a Chinese community Chinese New Year will be celebrated with the requisite grandeur, pomp, and excitement, albeit with slight variations in different locations.

Whatever differences there may be though, some things are still common whether one is in Chinese-majority areas such as Hong Kong, China or Singapore, or in places where they are a minority such as Australia, the USA, or Great Britain. For instance, the colour red is prevalent during the time, and children will receive the famous hong pao or red packet filled with money.

Although commonly given to children during this time, hong pao during Chinese New Year is not age-restrictive but status-restrictive. Also the money inside the packet should consist of denominations of even numbers as receiving odd numbers is considered to be bad luck.
